Ray Newton is world-renowned as a diversely talented showman:
A true multi-stylist drummer, and an exciting and colorful performer. His storied accomplishments include work on some of the most successful recordings ever, world tours, and playing the world’s most famous venues, including capacity-filled stadiums of audiences well over 100,000. Ray has worked with Michael Jackson, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Village People, Mark Morrison, The Pan-American Symphony Orchestra, Snow, and many more. His current worldwide endorsements include Ayotte and Remo, with Vater as his primary wood sticks, and Hiptrix to illuminate those incendiary and musical drum solos for which he’s known.
Ray is also a bandleader, songwriter, composer, arranger, producer, vocal expressionist, and more, with work encompassing film, videos, DVDs, and Broadway. He owns a Multi-Platinum Record Plaque for his contributions to Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall LP, which has sold over 50 million copies, and has multiple gold albums to his credit besides. His worldwide television work includes the syndicated classic Cosby Show theme song, The Grammys, Oprah, several judging appearances on American Idol precursor Star Search, and various UNCF events. Based out of NYC, Ray currently works as bandleader of Ray Newton’s Deziire, drummer with Melba Moore, and as drummer, band contractor, musical director, and creative force for various name artists.
