As the son of legendary drumming icon Ginger Baker, Kofi Baker has a name that’s synonymous with drumming excellence. One’s first thought might be to compare him to his father, but Kofi’s outstanding skills, drive, and dedication have added up to a unique, unmatched style that has sharply carved itself out as revolutionary: The next step in the great Baker family legacy.
In 1975, at age six, Kofi made his first performing appearance with his father on live UK television, and he’s been playing before the public ever since. Kofi has toured Europe performing drum duets with Ginger, toured with John Ethridge of Soft Machine and Steve Marriott of Humble Pie, gigged with Steve Waller of Manfred Mann and Randy California of Spirit, recorded albums on Scotti Brothers Records, and even recorded and toured with Cream’s Jack Bruce. Now based in L.A., Kofi’s stateside projects include Tapestry, jazz-fusion outlet OHM, The Kofi Baker Jazz Band, The Kofi Baker Bluesion Band, session work, and The Kofi Baker Drum School. Kofi has also been featured in Modern Drummer, endorses Page Drums and Vater Drumsticks, and currently pays tribute to his father’s work with Cream and Blind Faith in a project fittingly dubbed by some as "Kofi ’n Cream."
