What better endorsement for a visual effect stick than one from a groundbreaking pioneer of the 1960’s San Francisco psychedelic rock movement? When culture was changing the face of music, and music was changing the face of culture, David Getz was there in the middle of it all. Big Brother and the Holding Company is the band that introduced the world to the one and only Janis Joplin, and with Joplin on vocals and Getz on drums, BBHC was and is widely considered one of the great bands in the history of American rock music. Today Dave is a respected master drummer, educator, and accomplished visual artist. This eclectic cocktail of musical and visual experience over the last 50 years makes him a truly unique and noteworthy endorser for Hiptrix.
After Big Brother, Getz went on to success in several other major bands, including recording and touring with Country Joe and the Fish. The 1970’s BBHC reunion on Columbia Records was also notable, and was a creative high point in his career as both a drummer and songwriter. These days, Dave can be heard playing in the reunited BBHC and several other popular Bay Area bands, and continues to juggle art, music, teaching, family, and his other passion, golf.
